This type, struck 1839-57 in large quantities, is readily available in circulated condition. The introduction of Gobrecht's hub of Liberty reduced the year-to-year variation in her appearance but plenty of varieties exist nonetheless.

Recorded mintage: 6,641,131 (highest mintage large cent).

Specification: 10.89 g, copper, 27.5 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Christian Gobrecht.

Catalog reference: KM 67.
