Künker Auction 441, lot 5075

This specimen was lot 5075 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €8,000 (about US$11,006 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

(kingdom of Norway, Christian IV, 1588-1648, half speciedaler of 1643, Christiania mint. Obverse: crowned, armored and sashed bust right; reverse: crowned lion left, supporting a curved halberd, dividing the date. Extremely rare, handsome patina, slightly weakly struck, very fine.)"

Despite a steady issue for 1629-48, this type is rare. The photo in the SCWC shows a Tuscan ruspone of 1791.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.62 g, 0.882 fine silver, 33 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 11, Ahlström 66 B (XR); Thesen 66 B (RRR).
