Wurttemberg 1810-ILW 20 kreuzer KM-501
This specimen was lot 3542 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €340 (about US$468 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 20 Kreuzer 1810. Stempelschneider Johann Ludwig Wagner. Mit Brustbild. Seltener Jahrgang. Fast vorzüglich. Erworben im Mai 1992 aus der Lagerliste 8 der Münzen und Medaillenhandlung Stuttgart. (kingdom of Württemberg, Frederick I, 1806-16, twenty kreuzer of 1810, uniformed bust obverse. Rare date, about extremely fine.)"
This twenty kreuzer was struck 1807-10. Another twenty kreuzer with a bare head (KM 510) was also struck in 1810. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick, who ascended the throne of Württemberg as a duke, was promoted to king by Napoleon in 1806. He did quite well out of Napoleon's reorganization of Germany and found his realm doubled in size. A timely switching of sides allowed him to keep his gains at the Congress of Vienna.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
