Jean Elsen sale 163, lot 2156

This specimen was lot 2156 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €120 (about US$139 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, ZEELAND, Provincie, Nederlandse rijksdaalder, 1619. Vz/ Geharnast bb. r. met zwaard en provinciewapen. Kz/ Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. Barstje in de muntplaat. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, silver Dutch rijksdaalder of 1619. Obverse: armored bust right with sword supports the provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Planchet cracks, Fine - Very Fine.)"

This type, listed with a castle mintmark for 1606-51, overlaps the leeuwendaalder of 1608-58, the silver ducat of 1659-68 and the ducaton of 1660-73, all struck to different standards. Half daalders also exist.
