Zwolle 1659 silver ducat Dav-4921
This specimen was lot 30289 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Zwolle. Provincial Ducaton 1659 MS63 NGC. Singularly the finest-known certified example of this two-year type with silvery-toned surfaces that radiate with an incredible amount of mint luster. Some softness in the strike, as is typical for these broad issues; nonetheless, a conditional rarity, seldom encountered in the marketplace." This type, listed for 1656-60, is not listed as expensive but usually comes in poor condition as most were badly struck. Zwolle is a town in the province of Overijssel.
