Sincona sale 83, lot 5114

This specimen was lot 5114 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$535 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND Zurich. 10 Schilling 1718, Zürich. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. FDC. (canton of Zurich, ten schilling of 1718, Zurich mint. Very rare in this condition, Cabinet piece. Brilliant uncirculated." This type was struck 1718-32 and 1736, 1739-53. Like many Swiss minors, it has a low catalog value. At the beginning of the eighteenth century, the thaler was raised from 72 schilling to 80 schilling, making this an eighth of a thaler.
