Sincona sale 83, lot 5066

This specimen was lot 5066 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$268 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND Zug, Dicken 1617, Zug. Fast vorzüglich (About extremely fine)." A dicken was twenty-four kreuzer or one-third of a thaler. This type is noted in the SCWC for 1609-22 and is listed as fairly common. The figure on the obverse is St Oswald, a British king who converted the Northumbrians.
