Zeeland 1779 silver ducat Dav-1848
This specimen was lot 878 in Jean Elsen list 265 (Brussels, July-September 2013) where it was offered for €120 (about US$158 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, ZEELAND, Provincie, AR zilveren dukaat, 1779, Droit: Ridder n.r. met zwaard en provinciewapen. Revers: Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. Zwak uitgemunt. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, silver ducat of 1779. Obverse: standing knight supports the provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Weakly struck, very fine.)"
This type was struck throughout the eighteenth century with various mintmarks until 1794. This is a common date.
