Utrecht 1779 silver ducat Dav-1845
This specimen was lot 1348 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €550 (about US$635 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PROVINCES-UNIES, UTRECHT, AR ducat d'argent (zilveren dukaat), 1779. D/ Guerrier deb. à d., ten. une épée et l'écu de la province. R/ Écu couronné de la Généralité. Extrêmement rare. Patine foncée. Provient de l'épave de l'Evstaffi (1780). (United Provinces, province of Utrecht, silver ducat of 1779. Obverse: knight right, holding a sword and the arms of the province; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Extremely rare, nice patina, Very Fine.)"
This type was struck 1739-43, 1746-94. Half silver ducats exist. This is a common date. The Utrecht mint is still in operation, striking euros.
