Utrecht 1778 2 ducats Fr-283
This specimen was lot 34080 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Utrecht. Provincial gold 2 Ducat 1778 MS63 NGC. Yet another wonderful addition to this fairly extensive provincial Dutch section of the auction, showcasing a sublime double Ducat that remains practically Prooflike; the engraved devices rising in clear contrast against watery fields beneath. A rare piece as confirmed by the paucity of certified representatives, this being the only occupant at NGC's census, and is worth[y] of bids commensurate with that fact." This type was struck throughout the eighteenth century until 1794 but remains expensive.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold.
Catalog reference: Fr-283, KM 42.2, Delm-962.
