Zeeland 1771 silver ducat Dav-1848
This specimen was lot 892 in Jean Elsen price list 258 (Brussels, October 2011) where it was offered for €125 (about US$175). The catalog description noted,
"NEDERLAND, ZEELAND, Provincie, AR zilveren dukaat, 1771, Droit : Staande ridder naar radié met zwaard en provinciewapen. Revers : Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. Defect aan de rand. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, silver ducat of 1771. Obverse: standing knight with sword supports the provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Netherlands. Planchet defects, very fine.)"
This type was struck nearly continuously 1757-94 with a tower mintmark. Zeeland also struck half, quarter and eighth silver ducats, the only province to do so.
