Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 49036

This specimen was lot 49036 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Zeeland. Ducat, 1696. Middleburg Mint. NGC AU-58." This type was struck 1672-1708, 1713-27, 1735-38, 1747-53 for Zeeland, a province of the Netherlands. The early type (Dav-4912) was struck 1659-68. It was superseded by this type, which deleted the ring of beads on both sides. It is priced fairly low in the SCWC but is seldom seen at American coin shows. Presentation strikes in gold exist for some dates, such as 1686.
