Zeeland 1649 rijksdaalder Dav-4844
This specimen was lot 1892 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"NIEDERLANDE Zeeland Niederländischer Reichstaler 1649. Belorbeerter Geharnischter mit geschultertem Schwert nach rechts hält vor sich ein Wappenschild. Rv. Gekröntes Wappen zwischen der Jahreszahl. Sehr schön. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, rijksdaalder of 1649. Obverse: laureate, armored half-length bust with naked sword and shield, facing right; reverse: crowned arms divide date, very fine.)"
This specimen was offered again as lot 2196 in Sincona sale 11, where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$186 including buyer's fee). This type, listed for 1606-71, overlaps the lion daalder of 1608-58 (Dav-4872), the silver ducat of 1659-68 and the ducaton of 1660-73, all struck to different standards.
