This specimen was lot 25840 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $5,462.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 250 Kwacha 1979, Conservation issue, African wild dog, PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC." Zambia fell under British domination in the 1880's (then called "Northern Rhodesia") and remained a colony until indepemdence in 1964. Altho blessed with ample mineral resources, especially copper, the country remains mired in poverty. Kenneth Kaunda, shown on the obverse, was president of Zambia 1964-91.
