This specimen was part of lot 32335 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), which sold for 3,720. The catalog description[1] noted, "Zambia. Republic 3-Piece Certified gold & silver Conservation Kwacha Proof Set 1979 Ultra Cameo NGC, 1) "Kafue Lechwe" 5 Kwacha - PR67, KM 18a; 2) "Taita Falcon" 10 Kwacha - PR67, KM 19a; 3) gold "African Wild Dog" 250 Kwacha - PR69. A high-grade set including the scarce "African Wild Dog" 250 Kwacha, of which only 245 specimens were struck." The circulation coinage of Zambia, in sourthern Africa, is scanty. Many NCLT's of Zambia feature such un-African topics as Princess Diana, the euro and Roald Amundsen. This type was offered in two different weights, 25.31 g and 28.28 g. Kenneth Kaunda, shown on the obverse, was president of Zambia 1964-91.
