Wurzburg 1795-MM thaler Dav-2913
This specimen was lot 1414 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €700 (about US$944 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRZBURG, BISTUM, Georg Karl von Fechenbach, 1795-1802. Konv.-Taler 1795, Würzburg. Kontribution. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (bishopric of Würzburg, George Charles of Fechenbach, 1795-1802, convention thaler of 1795, Wurzburg mint, for the contribution. Proof example, beautiful patina, minor edge bumps, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This thaler is one of a series (Dav-2911 thru -2915) offered as a "voluntary contribution" to revolutionary France's war machine. Wurzburg was mediatized and annexed to Bavaria in 1803.
