Sincona Auction 103, lot 419

This specimen was lot 419 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Würzburg, Bistum, Georg Karl von Fechenbach 1795-1802. 20 Kreuzer 1795, Würzburg. Münzmeister und Wardein J.N. und G. Martinengo. Vorzüglich. Feine Patina. (Germany, bishopric of Würzburg, George Charles of Fechenbach, 1795-1802, twenty kreuzer of 1795, Würzburg mint. Extremely Fine, Nicely toned.)"

The SCWC notes six different twenty kreuzer for 1795: KM 447 (Francis Louis of Erthal), KM 448, KM 449, KM 450, KM 451 and KM 452 (shown here). Many of the bishops were also bishops of Bamberg but not Georg Carl. His domain was secularized in 1803 and annexed to Bavaria, where it remains. Twenty kreuzer = 1/6 thaler in the late eighteenth century.
