Künker sale 263, lot 1435

This specimen was lot 1435 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BISTUM Georg Karl von Fechenbach, 1795-1802. Konv.-Taler 1795, Würzburg. Kontribution. Prachtexemplar. Min. Justierspuren, fast Stempelglanz. (bishopric of Würzburg, George Charles of Fechenbach, 1795-1802, contribution thaler of 1795, Wurzburg mint. Proof, tiny adjustment marks, about uncirculated.)"

This thaler is one of a series (Dav-2911 thru -2915) offered as a "voluntary contribution" to revolutionary France's war machine. Wurzburg was mediatized and annexed to Bavaria in 1803.
