Künker sale 406, lot 4082

This specimen was lot 4082 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,986 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRZBURG, BISTUM, Friedrich Karl von Schönborn, 1729-1746. 2 Dukaten 1729, Würzburg. GOLD. R Leicht gereinigt, vorzüglich. (bishopric of Würzburg, Frederick Charles of Schönborn, 1729-1746, double ducat of 1729, Würzburg mint. Rare, lightly cleaned, extremely fine.)"

This expensive type was struck 1729-31. Another double ducat struck at the same time had coats of arms on both sides (KM 298). Friedrich Karl von Schönborn was also bishop of Bamberg but spent most of his reign in Vienna.
