Wurttemberg 1864 1/2 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3630 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €45 (about US$62 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Wilhelm I., 1816-1864. Ku.-1/2 Kreuzer 1864. Fast Stempelglanz. Erworben im Juni 1988 aus dem Lager der Münzenetage H. Schulz, Stuttgart. (kingdom of Württemberg, William I, 1816-64, copper half kreuzer of 1864. About uncirculated.)"
King William began his reign as a liberal, granting Württemberg a constitution and reforming taxes, customs duties and agriculture, but grew reactionary after the revolutions of 1848. One gulden was sixty kreuzer. This type was struck 1858-64.
