Steve Album sale 51, lot 3017

This specimen was lot 3017 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $54. The catalog description[1] noted, "WESTPHALIA: AE 10 mark, 1921, notgeld issue, the Saxon Steed from the Province of Westphalia // Freiherr vom Stein portrait, PCGS graded MS62 BN." This is one of an extensive series of notgeld issued by the Landesbank der Provinz Westfalen in 1921-23 in denominations ranging from 5 mark to one trillion mark. We doubt they were intended to circulate, as they are never found worn.

Recorded mintage: 116,489.

Specifications: 19.3 g, bronze, 38 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: J-N13, Funck 599.5.
