Steve Album Auction 52, lot 2607

This specimen was lot 2607 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "WESTPHALIA: Weimar Republic, 5,000,000 mark, 1923, with original box of issue, gilt notgeld, the Saxon Steed from the Province of Westphalia // Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein portrait, a superb quality example! PCGS graded MS65." This is from a series of notgeld tokens issued in 1923, including fifty, 100, 500, 10,000, ¼ million, 2 million, 5 million and 50 million mark. We doubt they were intended to circulate, as they are never found worn.

Recorded mintage: 105,178 + 8,695 in brass (Funck 645.11).

Specification: 32.9 g, copper, 44 mm diameter.
