This specimen was lot 72471 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Weimar Republic. 50 Pfennig, 1921-D. Munich Mint. NGC MS-68. Tied with a host of others as the finest in the PCGS census, this sublime Gem presents seemingly flawless steel gray surfaces along with brilliant luster." This type was type struck 1919-22 in the aftermath of defeat in World War One. It is one of the first aluminum coins issued for circulation.

Recorded mintage: 48,729,000.
