Westfriesland 1756 ducaton Dav-1834
This specimen was lot 3029 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €140 (about US$198 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"EUROPÄISCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · NIEDERLANDE, WESTFRIESLAND Provinz. Dukaton (Zilveren Rijder) 1756, Hoorn. Münzzeichen Hahn. R Hübsche Patina, leichte Prägeschwäche, eingravierte Initialen im Feld der Vorderseite, sehr schön +. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, ducaton or silver rider of 1756, Hoorn mint, mintmark rooster. Rare, handsome patina,weakly struck, initial engraved in the obverse field, very fine or better.)"
This type was issued in various forms throughout the eighteenth century until 1793, when revolutionary French armies occupied the United Provinces and terminated their independence. The rooster mintmark was used 1742-60.
