Westfriesland 1753 ducaton Dav-1834
This specimen was lot 20416 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. West Friesland. Ducaton, 1753. NGC EF-45. An engaging and hefty silver issue, this impressive example does exhibit some light wear upon the high points, but nevertheless retains solid detail and some deeper color near the peripheries. The only example of the date in the NGC census, it should be noted for completeness that there are a few marks near the rim on the lower obverse." This type was issued in various forms throughout the eighteenth century until 1793, when revolutionary French armies occupied the United Provinces and terminated their independence. This date is not listed in the SCWC.
