Westfriesland 1696 3 gulden Dav-4962
This specimen was lot 31717 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $5,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: West Friesland. Provincial Piefort 3 Gulden 1696 AU58 NGC. A seldom-encountered rarity, obviously cared for over the centuries. A cloudy cabinet patina subsides at the peripheries, where glints of argent show through with beautiful pilot-light blue tone. Peripheral motifs are bold and clear, balancing the gentle rub and slight weakness in the centers." The regular issue (KM 95.1/Dav-4963) was struck 1695-1703. A previous piefort three gulden (Dav-A4961) which we have posted on this site has a different reverse.
