Westfriesland 1668 2 ducaton Dav-A4939
This specimen was lot 31719 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: West Friesland. Provincial Double Ducaton (2 Silver Rider) 1668 VF Details (Edge Graffiti) NGC. Appreciable in any grade, this survivor admits some honest wear but holds attention with its fields of lemon, teal, and tangerine tone which glint with bloom during in-hand inspection. A handful of very minute marks are noted along the edge, though somewhat obscured by the holder." Altho the SCWC lists this as a pattern, double ducatons are attested for many dates and most of the provinces. They were struck for presentation.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 65.56 g, 0.941 fine silver, this specimen 65.11 g.
