This specimen was lot 3807 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $423. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mark, 1955-G. NGC MS-66. Key date. The finest certified example. Brilliant surfaces. KM Catalog value of $1,650 in MS-60." This type was produced at four mints (Munich, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Hamburg) in 1950 in such numbers that no more were struck until 1954. The Karlsruhe mint mark was "G". The last issue for circulation was in 1994 and the type was retired in 2002 with the coming of the euro.
Recorded mintage: 2,500,000 plus proofs.
