Germany 1955-F mark
This specimen was lot 74719 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. East Germany. Mark, 1955-F. Stuttgart Mint. NGC MS-65. SCARCE to encounter so attractive, this Gem is tied for "top pop" with only other example at NGC. Silver gray surfaces are lush with satin luster and clearly remain original. Full of appeal for the most selective cabinets of modern German coinage." This type was struck 1950, 1954-2001 in West Germany, not East Germany. It was issued for collector sets only after 1994. Most of the dates of the fifties have a considerable catalog value; we don't know how popular collecting these by date is outside of Germany.
