This specimen was lot 4743 in Goldberg sale 65 (Los Angeles, September 2011), where it sold for $264.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Germany. 5 Mark, 1955-F. Death of Friedrich von Schiller. Extremely Fine to About Uncirculated." This type marking the sesquicentennial of the death of Schiller was the second commemorative issued by the West German government after World War Two. This and other commemorative issues of the fifties were all minted in limited numbers and are expensive today. Commemorative five marks were minted to this weight standard until 1975, when the weight was lowered to 5.3 grams.

Recorded mintage: 199,000.
