This specimen was lot 2662 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY: Federal Republic, 1 mark, 1956-J, a wonderful example, PCGS graded MS64." This type was struck 1950, 1954-2001. It was issued for collector sets only after 1994. This is a product of the Hamburg mint. Most of the dates of the fifties have a considerable catalog value (this example realized one-third of the catalog value); we don't know how popular collecting these by date is outside of Germany.
Recorded mintage: 11,478,000 plus proofs.
