This specimen was lot 3099 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Venice. 2 Zecchini, ND (ca. 1779-80)-RB. Paolo Renier (1779-89). NGC EF Details--Plugged. RARE. Struck with 1/4 Ducato dies. Plugged at 12 o'clock, most likely from a brief period when it was worn as a necklace or pendant. Nicely struck with full legends, and expertly repaired." This specimen was subsequently lot 42470 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[2] noted, "ITALY. Venice. Off-Metal Strike -- Gold 1/4 Ducato of 2 Zecchini Weight, ND (1779-80). Venice Mint. Paolo Renier. NGC EF Details--Plugged. A VERY RARE and enchanting type, this example is (rather expertly) plugged at 12 o'clock, most likely from a brief period when it was worn as a necklace or pendant. Nevertheless, nicely struck, with full legends and excellent detail remaining." The silver version (KM 700) is known for mintmasters RB (1779-81), AC (1786-87), BC (1779) and LAF (1779) and is modestly priced.

Specification: 5.85 g, 0.826 fine silver, 31 mm diameter; this specimen gold, 6.9 g.
