This specimen was lot 20393 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Venice. 1/2 Scudo, ND (1779)-LAF. Paolo Renier. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. Variety with "И" for "N" in legends. An overall lovely coin with sharp device detail, not a hint of weakness and attractive sunset toning colors at the edges when rotated under a light. Clearly an elite coin for the issue." This is the only issue of this denomination by this doge. The variety with the reversed "N's" is awarded triple the price of the normal issue. The half scudo was 70 soldi or three lire.
