Venice (1623)-ZD scudo Dav-4242
This specimen was lot 3430 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$309 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALY, Venice, Francesco Contarini. 1623-1624 Scudo della croce o. J. Mmz. ZD. Gutes sehr schön. (Italy, republic of Venice, Francesco Contarini, 1623-24, undated scudo of the cross, mintmaster ZD. Good very fine.)"
The coin does not bear a date but can be dated to 1623 by the mintmaster's initials ("ZD", for Zuane Diedo). The type is known for 1623-24. The silver scudo had a face value of 140 soldi.
