Jean Elsen sale 161, lot 1505

This specimen was lot 1505 in Jean Elsen sale 161 (Brussels, March 2025), where it sold for €300 (about US$391 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, UTRECHT, Provincie, AV dukaat met de ridder, 1790. Vz/ Staande ridder n.r. met zwaard en pijlenbundel. Kz/ Tekst in versierd vierkant. Montagesporen. Krasjes. (Netherlands, province of Utrecht, gold ducat of the knight of 1790. Obverse: standing knight with sword and bundle of arrows; reverse: four line inscription on tablet. Mount mark, adjustment marks, about Very Fine.)"

This type was struck with interruptions 1741-94. The early type ducats were hammered; later issues of the eighteenth century, such as this one, were milled.

Specification: 3.47 g, 0.986 fine gold, 21-22 mm diameter, this specimen 3,49 g.
