Uruguay 1857-D 20 centesimos
This specimen was lot 72859 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "URUGUAY. 20 Centesimos, 1857-D. Lyon Mint. Republic. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown. The single finest known example with only one other Mint State graded at PCGS. A fiery red-brown with faint touches of mottled patina in the fields, this gorgeous Lyon piece has unwavering luster and a strong strike. Ready for the finest of Latin American collections. From the Cerro Catedral Collection." This type, along with a five and forty centésimos, was struck in France in 1857 only. While not common, this issue is quite a bit more available than those of 1843-44 and 1854-55.
