This specimen was lot 23233 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $431.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 5 Centesimos 1855, bold VF, reverse scratches, strong sunface. Scarce type." Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the nineteenth century and many issues are rare; this one is scarce. It was replaced by a French made copper type of similar design issued 1857. Similar twenty centesimos were also issued.
