This type was struck 1857 only at Lyon, France. Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the nineteenth century and many issues are rare; this one is fairly common. It was replaced by a copper-nickel type of similar design issued 1901-41. Similar twenty (KM 9) and forty centésimos (KM 10) were also issued.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: copper.
Catalog reference: KM 8.
