Sincona sale 35, lot 5280

This specimen was lot 5280 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,086 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Obwalden, Dukat 1726. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (canton of Obwalden, ducat of 1726. Rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"

Unterwalden was one of the three original cantons forming the Swiss Confederation in 1291. Far from the main channels of commerce, her coinage is scanty and rare.
