Sincona sale 102, lot 5400

This specimen was lot 5400 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$452 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Obwalden. 20 Kreuzer 1726, Sarnen. Variante mit Jahreszahl auf beiden Seiten. Das Wappen oben senkrecht schraffiert. Schräg gerippter Rand mit Mittellinie. Sehr selten. Randausbruch. Fast sehr schön. (Switzerland, half canton of Obwalden, twenty kreuzer of 1726, Sarnen mint, variety with the date on both sides. The chief of the coat of arms is vertically hatched. Obliquely reeded edge with a central line. Very rare, Edge chipped, About Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1726, 1729-32 and has the date on the obverse. There is also KM 13, with the date on the reverse, struck 1726, 1728, 1736, 1742-43, and priced about the same. Twenty kreuzer was one-sixth of a thaler.
