Stack's Bowers March 2019 auction, part of lot 12382
SB319-12382b.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 12382 in Stack's Bowers March 2019 auction, where it sold for $2,400. The lot description noted, "Complete Set of 2007-W Gold Eagles. Proof-69 Deep Cameo (PCGS)." In 1986, the mint inaugurated the Bullion Coinage Program in gold and silver to compete with foreign coins (such as the krugerrand) and privately issued medallions. While sales have died down from the initial enthusiasm, they have been steady sellers and the type, issued in one, half, quarter and tenth ounce sizes, is still in production. The proofs and "burnished uncirculated" are mintmarked "W" for West Point while the bulk issue is not mintmarked.

Recorded Mintage: 140,016 + 18,609 "burnished uncirculated" + 51,810 proofs (mintmarked "W").

Specification: 33.93 g, 0.917 fine gold, 32.7 mm diameter. Designed by Miley Busiek.

Catalog reference: KM 219, Fr-B1.
