This specimen was lot 10528 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $734. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Tuscany. Francescone, 1763. Francis I (1746-65). Toned. NGC AU-58. From the Demarete Collection." This type is listed for 1747 and 1758-64 and is inexpensive for an Italian crown. Francis was the husband of Maria Theresia of Austria and Holy Roman Emperor. He was originally duke of Lorraine but was evicted by the French and given Tuscany as compensation, the native Medici having gone extinct. Similar crowns (Dav-1504, -1506, -1507, -1508) are listed for 1747-66. In 1800, Tuscany was occupied by the French and not returned to Hapsburg rule until 1815.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.5 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-1505; KM C-8a.
