Turkey AH1327-3 2 kurush rev DSLR.jpg

The first specimen was lot 2386 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mehmet V, 1909-1918, AR 2 kurush, Salanik, AH1327 year 3, city visit issue, light surface hairlines, EF." Early in his reign, the sultan toured some of the cities of his domain. Presumably, the construction of railroads made this less arduous than in generations past. On the occasion of his visit to Salanik (now Salonica in Greece), commemorative two, five, ten, fifty and 100 kurush were minted and distributed.

Recorded mintage: 13,000.

Specification: 2.41 g, 0.830 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-808.
