SA39-2442r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2442 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $84. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mehmet V, 1909-1918, AR 2 kurush, Edirne, AH1327 year 2, city visit issue, struck at the Kostantiniye (Constantinople) mint, AU." Early in his reign, the sultan toured some of the cities of his domain. Presumably, the construction of railroads made this less arduous than in generations past. On the occasion of his visit to Edirne, commemorative two, five, ten, fifty, 100 and 500 kurush were minted and distributed.

Specification: 2.41 g, 0.830 fine silver.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Catalog reference: KM-790.
