Stephen Album sale 37, lot 2343

This specimen was lot 2343 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $178.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mahmud II, 1808-1839, AR 30 para (zolota), Kostantiniye, AH1223 year 17, a lovely example! PCGS graded MS64." In general, thirty para made a zolota and forty para made a kuruş, altho frequent devaluations made a hash of the system. This type, included in the sixth issue, is listed for years 17-21 and is not supposed to come in Uncirculated. Regnal year 17 (AH 1239) corresponded to September 1823-August 1824.
