Steve Album sale 54, lot 1887

This specimen was lot 1887 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mahmud II, 1808-1839, AV ¼ new adli altin, AH1223 year 17, pierced, Fine." This type was struck years 15 thru 24. Most are holed, perhaps having been removed from the costumes of belly dancers. The gold was the victim of frequent manipulation and the denominations changed names in a confusing manner. The SCWC lists zeri mahbubs, rumi altins, adli altins, yeni altins and hayriye altins for this period.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.38-0.43 g, gold, this specimen 0.40 g.

Catalog reference: KM-633.
