This specimen was lot 2344 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $154.70. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mahmud II, 1808-1839, AR 60 para, Kostantiniye, AH1223 year 18, gorgeous iridescent toning, bold strike, NGC graded MS63." This type was struck years 16-21. Debasement was continuous throughout the sultan's reign and coinage types were usually shortlived. Regnal year 18 (AH 1240) corresponded to August 1824-August 1825. Sixty para equalled 1½ kurush.
