This specimen was lot 31319 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Thorn. Jan Casimir 18 Groszy (Ort) 1666 HD-L VF20 NGC, Thorn mint, Hans David Lauer as mintmaster, A very rare date, this example is typically crude and well-circulated, although the surfaces do not exhibit heavy marks and appear original." This denomination, struck at Thorn in various styles 1650-68, seems to be unique to Poland. The SCWC notes that it traded for a quarter thaler but may only have been a fifth.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
