Sincona sale 100, lot 1225

This specimen was lot 1225 in Sincona Auction 100 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 36,000 CHF (about US$54,259 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Eidgenossenschaft, 2 Rappen 1896 B, Bern. HELVETIA Schweizer Wappenschild mit Federhut auf einem Kranz aus Lorbeer- und Eichenzweigen, darunter die Jahreszahl. Rv. Wertzahl in einem Kranz aus Eichenzweigen, unten das Münzzeichen B. Divo 156. HMZ 2-1213l. Von grösster Seltenheit. Nur 20 Exemplare geprägt. Fast FDC. (confederation of Switzerland, two rappen of 1896, Bern mint. Obverse: Swiss coat of arms with a feathered hat on a wreath of laurel and oak branches, with the date below; Reverse: Denomination within a wreath of oak branches, with the mint mark B at the bottom. Of the highest rarity. Only 20 specimens struck, About Mint State.)"

This type was struck at the Bern mint 1893-1931. The earlier issue (KM 4.1) was 3 grams. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins. The year 1896 is the key for all the minor coinage.
