SB626-11141r.jpg

This specimen was lot 11141 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €109 (about US$127). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/4 Skilling, 1832. Stockholm Mint. Karl XIV Johan. NGC MS-61 Brown. Nice uncirculated example despite some corrosion on both sides. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." In the reform of 1830, the sixth and third riksdalers were dropped for eighth, quarter and half riksdalers. The skilling, formerly 1/48 riksdaler, became 1/128 riksdaler. The copper coinage included one, half, quarter, 1/6 and 1/8 skilling pieces. This type of 1832-33 is not rare but is uncommon in nice condition. In 1835, the half, quarter and eighth skilling pieces were dropped and two, 2/3 and 1/3 skilling pieces added.

Recorded mintage: 160,000.

Specification: 4.3 g, copper, 21.3 mm diameter, this specimen 4.30 g.

Catalog reference: KM-636; SM-133; Bruun-13349.
